6 Days.

*Sigh* She's just so...beautiful.

Yesterday I felt good enough to go without my crutches and get some work done at the barn, and...ride. 6 days after surgery is all it took. I've been like that with all of my surgeries. Except my wisdom teeth. Out of 4 surgeries my wisdom teeth were THE WORST. I've never been so incapacitated and honestly almost debilitated in my life. I tried to be tough and let the pain medication wear off and use only as needed because I don't really like taking stuff like that. BIG, BIG HUUUUGE MISTAKE. I've never hurt so bad. I would lay there with tears streaming down my face waiting for the oxycodone to kick in. I was on that stuff for 2 freaking weeks. And no, I didn't have dry sockets. When I went back to make sure because of the pain they were like "Oh, no everything looks good. We just really had to drill on your jaw bone to get those lower ones out." The 3 other surgeries I've had, which you would think would hurt a lot worse than a little dental surgery (they were much more invasive), I've been off the pain medicine within 3 days. Anyway, I'm getting way off track.

I'm walking pretty normal. Some barn friends said I wasn't limping from what they could see. I'd say I'm 80% sound right now. Taking care of yourself (diet and fitness wise) pays off when it comes to healing. According to my post-op instructions I should be doing extremely light leg presses starting next week and able to get on the bike. YESSSS!!! I see my doc this Wednesday and the stitches come out. I have this personal ice/compression machine and it is AWESOME! It really makes my knee loosen up after an hour with it on.

So yes, yesterday, I rode. Just a walk/trot bareback ride. There is nothing wrong with that. It put no stress on the surgery knee what so ever. I got on and off from a picnic table.

Ahhhhh, relief.

Klein and surgery knee. It looks normal!!! The swelling is almost gone!

After our ride I decided to put Klein on the longe line for a little bit so that maybe she could get some amount of work in. We still have work to do. I took some video of it. Can you tell I'm not working? I have more time to make videos, etc...

She got just a little lazy, because she knew I had a phone in my hand instead of the longe whip.

Getting that square halt down.

The weather sucks today and tomorrow but by Wednesday it's going to clear up and by the weekend it'll be pretty nice out again.

Nothing feels better than getting back in the saddle... figuratively speaking of course;)

Awe... she is lovely. When you lunge, do you use verbal cues only? My trainer prefers body language. And I would assume a bit of both is best :)

I had to laugh when you described the pain of the dental surgery... yes, that IS the worst.

I had the dry sockets. Worst. Pain. Ever. I imagine "deeper drilling in the jaw" is just as bad.

I can see why Klein is starting to get bigger scores in dressage. Wow. A bit more energy and we are talking FANCY. Holy #$%^

Arg, wisdom teeth! I BEGGED for general anesthetic. The dentist, an old Navy officer, said no. 17 shots of Novocaine and an hour into the FIRST TOOTH, he muttered, "I should have given a general..." Sigh, sometimes I just want to kick them, ya know?

Glad you're up and going again. I agree, being fit REALLY makes a difference when it comes to recovery!

Such a sweet gorgeous mare. A tribute to your love and care!
